Job ticket № 02 · Aurora, CO

Broken spring replacement

The loud bang from the garage. The door that suddenly weighs 200 lbs. That’s a spring.

Typical price, installed

$240–$420

A torsion pair, installed, usually lands in this range. A single spring runs less — I price both options.

Sound familiar?

  • A gunshot-loud bang from the garage, then the door won’t lift
  • The opener strains, lifts a few inches, and gives up
  • A visible gap in the coil of the spring above the door
  • The door feels impossibly heavy to lift by hand

What I do about it

  • I measure your door and wire size and fit the right spring — not whatever is on the shelf
  • Common torsion sizes ride on the truck, so one visit usually does it
  • If one of a pair broke, I explain why replacing both saves you a second call, and price it both ways
  • Cables, bearings, and balance get checked while the system is unloaded

Asked on most driveways

Why replace both springs when only one broke?

Springs wear by cycles, and both springs on your door have the same cycles on them. The survivor usually follows the first one within months — replacing the pair while the system is already unloaded skips a second trip charge. If you’d rather do just the one, I’ll do that and say so on the invoice.

Can I still use the door until you get here?

Leave it down and don’t run the opener. If you absolutely must get a car out, two strong adults can lift a small door with the opener release pulled — but honestly, wait. A door falling off a broken spring is how garages eat bumpers.

How long does the job take?

About an hour for a straightforward torsion pair, including the balance and safety tests after.
